Millbrook Water Main Rationalisation

Contract: Millbrook Main Rationalisation, St. Aubins Inner Road, St. Lawrence

Client: Jersey Water

Value: £100k

Duration: 9 Days

Jersey Water identified the need for the rationalisation of key large diameter water mains to future proof their existing infrastructure. Following an 18 month public consultation Jayen were awarded the contract which was managed and carried out in conjunction with our on-going Jersey Water term contract work.

To complete the works a total closure of a part of St. Aubins Inner Road was required, which was facilitated by intensive and high profile local diversions. Large excavations were needed due to the size of water main, with works being carried out in 12 to 18 hour shifts each day due to the tight time constraints determined by the contract and the requirement to re-open the road following the school half term. The efficient management of direct labour and sub-contractors was needed due to the high volume of up to 35 operatives being in attendance at any given time, carrying out different tasks with heavy machinery in a site area of no more than 60 meters. The installation of the new 300mm ductile iron main was to a fine tolerance due to the high density of buried apparatus and to ensure correct alignment and configuration. The contract was completed on time, within budget, and to the satisfaction of the client.
