Val de la Mare Dam
Contract: Enabling works for an Upstream Geomembrane Lining, Val de la Mare Dam
Client: Jersey Water
Value: £0.6m
Duration: 24 Weeks
Jayen successfully secured this contract in early 2011 with works commencing in June 2011. Our duties under this contract included: liaising with specialist geomembrane contractor Carpi, and interpreting their full requirements, setting up site, welfare facilities, offices, and stores, establishing footpath closures, and signage including liaising with the general public, co-ordinating the construction phase health and safety plan, installation of a specialist access system to allow full uninhibited mechanical access to upstream face of the dam wall, power washing and localised concrete repairs to upstream dam face, de-watering, and over pumping, removing silt deposits and forming a safe, dry access road to the toe of the upstream dam wall, providing Carpi with accommodation, vehicles, and supplementing their labour as required, liaising with the resident engineer and his clerk of works, whilst keeping joint site diaries, progress photos and other site records.
The contract was full of unknowns as the reservoir had not been drained in its entirety since its completion in the 1960’s. However due to all those involved working together as a team we were all able to deliver the works within budget and ahead of programme.
